Parent Letter September 1st

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! Although we had hoped for an easier start to this school year, it was not to be. But as everyone knows, SRLA Ravens are not easily swayed and we look forward to an outstanding school year.

For students in grades k-8 who live in Maplewood and South Orange, no bus tickets will be issued, again this year. The district has decided instead to issue "in lieu of " transportation credit. Welcome and welcome back to our parking lot pick-up process. On the school's website, you will find a detailed diagram for the drop-off and pick-up process created for us last year by our very own Mary Uzzolino!

All students return to in-seat instruction this September! I am excited to see everyone and would like to remind everyone that if your student is out ill for one or two days, work will not be sent home and they may make up the work missed upon their return. Our priority is to help them rest and recover quickly.

Should we need to quarantine, that will be a different issue and I will send more details about our plan later next week.

We have four new teachers this year!

Our new first grade teacher:

My name is Christine Doyle and I am thrilled to be teaching your children this year. While it is my first year at St. Rose, I come to you with over ten years of teaching experience and an eagerness to get back to a full time career in education after taking time off to raise my three children. Two of my children will be attending St. Rose and we are all excited to be a part of this wonderful school community!

Our new third grade teacher:

My name is Sarah Speckhart and I am excited to be welcomed into the St. Rose community as the new Third Grade teacher. I’ve grown up in the catholic school system from elementary school to college and am grateful to be back as a teacher this time around. My mom and her siblings all went to the academy themselves and my family has been members of the parish for generations. I’m looking forward to meeting you all very soon and know we will all have an incredible school year.

Our new fourth grade teacher:

My name is Lisa Vicari. I’m very excited to be teaching grade four this year at St. Rose of Lima Academy. I’m a veteran teacher of 33 years, recently retired from the public school system. I’m certified in K-8 and P-3 NJ. I hold a degree in both Early Childhood Education and Psychology.

I am enthusiastic about meeting all the children and working with all of you as a family. Please feel free to reach out to me, via email, with any questions or concerns!

Our new Art teacher:

My name is Dawn Fowler and I am happy to be teaching Art at St. Rose of Lima this year. I have been teaching for over 10-year and I have a BA in Graphic Design and Masters classes in Education.

I look forward to teaching students fun art projects and then very detailed

artwork such as shaded and perspective for Realistic Drawings.

I also plan on including lessons for the students to create a business logo as one of their assignments.
