Dear Parents,
What to Expect During Weeks 1 and 2
Welcome everyone to the 2021-2022 school year. We will again begin in phases as we bring all students back to in-person instruction.
1. Pre-school will be dropped off at the playground door beginning September 8th and continue throughout the school year.
2. Grades kindergarten through eighth grade will line-up in the parking lot for the first two weeks. Students are to look for a large orange cone with their grade number and homeroom teacher.
2. After our initial two weeks, grades kindergarten through fourth grade will enter through the Devine Center door.
3. After our initial two weeks, grades five through eight will enter through the main door (Danny's desk)
Sept. 8-10: In person instruction for the entire student body (except Prek and kindergarten, your teacher has sent you special instructions for your first day, 9/8/21) with a half-day schedule for the first half week.
Sept. 13-17: Full day schedule begins for everyone. Before and Aftercare begin.
Our lunch program starts on Monday, so remember to place your order.
Our approach is subject to change, and could be modified depending on updates or changes by N.J. State, Dept. of Education, or the Archdiocese of Newark.
- *** Desk shields will be distributed throughout the school as an added safety feature and of course, until further notice, face masks will be worn.
School dress Code
Students are required to comply with the code accordingly:
Gym uniforms are acceptable for September 8-10. From September 13th on, full fall/spring uniforms are expected on non-gym days. This includes proper shoes as well. Sneakers are not allowed on non-gym.
- All students must wear a face covering while at school, unless they have a medical or other condition that would prevent them from doing so. Face masks with vents are prohibited, as are "neck gaiters" in accordance with CDC guidance.
Important items to remember as we begin this school year and keep your student safe. SRLA will:
- Implementation of multiple mitigation strategies (e.g., social distancing, face coverings, hand hygiene, and use of common sense measures).
- Maintain healthy environments (e.g., cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces).
- Clear, well-developed plan for when a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19 (See Reopening Plan).
- State and local case tracing developed and in place with the state and local health department through Linda Zuckerman, our school nurse.
Drop-off/Pick-up
Drop-off for K-8th grade will be in the parking lot for the first two weeks of school. After that students will follow this schedule:
- A staggered drop-off and pick-up schedule will be implemented
- Pre-school will be dropped off and picked up at the playground door
- K-4 will enter through the Devine Center and 5-8 will enter through the main door
- Note: Before care runs from 7:15-7:45 am every morning in the Library)
Again:
Pre-K: Drop off at 8:15-8:25 at the playground door
K-4: Drop off at 7:45-8:10 at the Devine Center Door
5-8: Drop off at 7:45-8:10 at the Front Door
All students entering after the times above must obtain a late pass from Danny and enter through the main door
Pick-up
Pre-school will be picked up at the playground door at 2:25 pm
Grades K-8 will have: Walkers dismissed, through the front door, at 2:40 pm
Car Line dismissed through the Devine Center and the backdoor at 2:50 pm
***A detailed Car Line Diagram illustrating the three-car line-up process may a be found on the school's website**
Health Measures
A COVID-19 Student Health Survey has been emailed to you and may also be found on our website. It must be completed before the first day of class; and emailed back or returned by the student on the first day of school.
- All classrooms will have a supply of hand sanitizer, extra masks and disinfectant wipes.
- Hands free sanitizers have been placed throughout the school building
- We will again enjoy the 16 Picnic tables located in the parking lot and across the way, behind Sr. Sandy's house.
- Outside time/space/opportunities will be expanded for everyone
- Our custodial staff will sanitize and clean frequently, with a thorough sanitization taking place every evening and before school begins.
- Student seating has been spaced appropriately. The desk shields are an extra measure the DOH and DOE have authorized barriers that assist with virus mitigation.
Additional Resources and Updates
As everyone has come to realize, our best defense is a terrific offense.
Temperature checks will not be taken at the entry points this year. We will randomly take temperatures throughout the day. This has proven to give a more accurate picture of the student body for any given day.
Lunch will be served in the cafeteria with classes seated together with their homerooms and spaced out accordingly, of course.
Together, we can make this work well again this year. I personally wish to thank you parents, for your support and belief in education as a top priority for your student.
Be well,
Tina Underwood
