1/7 Raven Rundown

January 7, 2022

Principal's Corner

Please read and familiarize yourself with the COVID quarantine rules and regulations, which contain specific information for schools and school populations. They are different and much more intense than those that you may hear about in our news outlets.

Thank you for your continued support and warm messages.

CDC Guidelines for Abbreviated Isolation and Quarantine Do Not Apply at This Time to Schools: On 12/27/2021, the CDC announced a Recommended Isolation and Quarantine Period for General Population that shortened the recommended time for isolation and quarantine.  https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/s1227-isolation-quarantine-guidance.html It is important to note that this guidance does NOT currently apply to school settings. The CDC is updating guidance for schools and other specific settings to consider how updated isolation and quarantine timeframes should be applied in these locations. Once the CDC guidance for schools is released, the NJ Department of Health will review and/or update NJ guidance for schools.

For the NJDOH update of 12/30/2021 explaining this important distinction and links to the NJDOH 12/15/2021 guidance, which is still in effect, please see:

Recommendations for Very High COVID-19 Activity Levels (Red): All four counties of the Archdiocese currently are classified as RED, meaning that they have very high Covid-19 Activity Levels. Please review your current mitigation strategies, and revise as needed to ensure sufficient distancing, limiting of student and staff interaction, and effective cohorts. NJDOH recommends that in addition to following current NJDOH guidance, K-12 schools located in regions with very high COVID-19 CALI activity levels (bolded recommendations are new) should:

·      Continue to adhere to mask mandates as outlined in EO 251.
·      Continue to promote layered prevention strategies such as physical
distancing, screening testing, handwashing, cleaning, improved ventilation, staying home when sick, etc.

Testing of Students: Testing cannot be required as a general condition of school attendance in RCAN schools, other than after a COVID-19 exposure or positive result.

Again, thank you parents, teachers and staff for your continued perseverance in the face of these rapidly changing metrics in our area. Your focus on the safety and continuity of learning for your students is appreciated.

Please remember, If you traveled outside of NY, NJ, CT, DE or PA, you must return a Covid Questionnaire upon your return. (click link here for your convenience).

Your child will be sent home if it is brought to our attention that you have traveled and forgot to tell us.

COVID Protocol Reminders
As COVID-19 cases rise sharply in New Jersey due to the more-contagious Omicron variant, SRLA will continue the half-day schedule next week, January 10 – 14. There will be no lunch service or aftercare next week.

Masks are required to be worn in school, and the use of KF94 and N95 masks is highly recommended. Masks are readily available for all students, teachers, and staff at the front desk. In addition, desk barriers will remain in place.

Please submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination for any student who has been vaccinated to Nurse Zuckerman (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).

If your child is sick, please keep them home from school!

The Book Fair Is Coming!
seamless_pattern_books.jpg
Save the date for the 2022 SRLA Scholastic Book Fair, less than three weeks away! This year's Book Fair will run from January 24 – 27 in the SRLA gym.

Every year, students look forward to browsing the fair and its wide selection of favorite authors, popular series and much more. All purchases benefit the school, so please stop by and support us!

E-wallet will be returning this year to make book shopping even more convenient for your family! It's a great alternative to sending kids to school with cash. Look for fliers to come home next week in your child's backpack with all the details.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to volunteer, so watch out for a sign-up soon. Volunteers will be needed:
  • January 23: Book Fair Setup
  • January 24 – 26: Students visit Book Fair/ Create wish lists/ Fulfill orders
  • January 27: Book Fair Breakdown

Reminder: All volunteers need to have current Protecting God's Children certification and mandatory COVID vaccination/testing requirements.

A Message from the 8th Grade

We would like to thank the SRLA families and friends who supported our 8th Grade fundraisers this Fall with the Charleston Wrap, Alstede Pies, and the SRLA Christmas Ornaments.

The sales were successful and will go a long way in helping the 8th Grade with all of their graduation events. The entire 8th grade is so grateful for your support and kindness!
