Science Fair April 26th Come for science, stay for "connect"-ion

Dear SRLA Families

Exciting Happenings at SRLA on Wednesday, April 26th

Please join us for two very exciting events that day.

Science Fair:

Time: 12:45-1:45 pm, in the gym.

Evening viewing, open to parents (no students): 6:30-7:00 pm

Evening Discussion with School Psychologist, Lauren Rosen

Time: 7:00-8:00 pm

Great news! Students will not have to return Wednesday evening for the science fair. We will, however, still have the open house for those adults who are unable to attend during the day or who may want to come back and view the student work again..

Additionally, we will have Lauren Rosen, a school psychologist from Childhood Connected, join us from 7-8 to discuss with our parents how we can better support our young ones in today's climate. She has 15 years of experience in private schools in NYC and NJ.

Lauren is currently presenting "We can't just switch it off: What our children can learn from traumatic news."

Sadly, our country continues to suffer from seemingly non-stop tragedies that can have a drastic impact on mental health. Many parents and teachers wonder, "Do I need to talk to my kids about scary news?" The short answer is: yes. However, this is nuanced by developmental level, meeting children where they are and tending to our own feelings around discomfort. Equally as important as talking openly about these issues, are the lessons children can learn to make their own world a safer place.

Please join us for an interesting discussion on Wednesday, April 26th.

Her website is here if you’d like to learn more about her work:

www.Childhoodconnected.com.

Please feel free to reach out to either Silinea or myself with any questions you may have.

We hope you plan on joining us on Friday, May 5th for our BIGGEST school fundraiser, Wish Upon a Star! The annual Grand Raffle is an exciting part of WISH, and one of our most important (and easiest!) fundraisers. Your child has brought home two booklets of Grand Raffle tickets today. We strongly encourage you to sell tickets to your family, friends, neighbors and coworkers and don’t forget to purchase a few for yourself.

Each ticket will be entered for a chance to win one of three Visa gift cards: Grand Prize $1,500, 2nd Prize $1,000 and 3rd Prize $500. We are striving for 100% participation from our school families and encourage you to sell both ticket booklets. Please return all ticket stubs to school by Tuesday, May 2nd.

Ticket holders need not be present to win! You can purchase tickets by credit card through our Blackbaud (new SMART) purchase tickets or write a check to “SRLA HSA”. Each ticket is $10, and you must send in your stubs with the name and contact information of the purchaser to be entered into the raffle. Stubs and checks should be returned to the school office in the envelope provided or marked “Attention: Grand Raffle.”

The winning ticket will be drawn at Wish Upon a Star on Friday, May 5th. If the winner is not present, they will be contacted to pick up their prize at a later date. Questions? Please feel free to contact us at the below email addresses.
